Design Tasmania is partnering with Australian Design Centre to present the 2018 Women in Design Colloquium in Launceston on 14 -16 September.

This year’s theme is “Making a Design Culture” and will look at the different ways this can be explored: materiality, ethics, and identity. This theme will initiate talks and dialogues from people, asking the question: How do we create an inclusive and well-informed culture of design? A keynote by Dr Gene Sherman will be presented on 14 September, while panels on 15 - 16 September will include presentations by leading professors, entrepreneurs, directors, academics, designers, founders and CEOs.

Tasmanian maker Lola Greeno will be speaking at Women in Design and a film of her work will be shown at the colloquium. Greeno is the first Indigenous artist to be honoured for 30 years of experience in the craft industry as part of Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft, an initiative of the Australian Design Centre. Touring exhibition Lola Green: Cultural Jewels includes more than 62 pieces of her work, alongside two films and a monograph, with two published essays by Gough and Greeno. Lola Greeno: Cultural Jewels is currently on a national tour until early 2019.

ADC’s Creative Strategy Associate Penny Craswell will be attending the event and participating on the panel discussing ethics within design. Keep an eye on our Instagram as Penny will share some highlights from the conference.

In case you can’t make the event in Tasmania we are hosting a special event in Sydney.
