Virginia Sprague draws upon the sense of dislocation that followed her return to Australia after two years in New York. Experiencing deeply familiar landscapes devastated by the 2020 Australian bushfires engendered feelings of grief and alienation – underscoring for her not only the tenuousness of our relationship to the natural world but the critical importance of embedding connection, nurture, and repair at its core. Each piece from the Show me the way home charts a slow and steady course toward a sense of reconnection and homecoming.
Studying and exhibiting both here and in the United States, Virginia was a finalist in the JMGA-NSW Profile Awards in 2019 - receiving a highly commended mention, and was awarded a placement in the Jewellery and Metal Survey 2019 through the Society of North American Goldsmiths.
