Jeff McCann Play
14 February – 17 May 2025
Play showcases Jeff McCann’s Cardboard Fabrication technique that spans art, design, fashion and craft by experimenting with the materials to make wearable pieces.
The pieces in this exhibition include two large curtains made from hand painted and cut cardboard on tulle and ‘Queer Champion’ wrestling belt, also hand painted cardboard with Velcro.
Australian Design Centre presents this exhibition in celebration of the 2025 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
"I have always loved textiles and fashion, but I am intimidated by fabrics. The idea of cutting the fabric wrong or making a mistake would always stop me from making art. Cardboard has been a huge part of my arts practice since my time at university. I love how freeing it is as a material. When I decided that I would experiment with cardboard to make "fabric" and wearable pieces, this fear dripped away, and I was able to start playing and experimenting."
