Yamma Yassou

Thursday 22 May - Saturday 5 July 2025
Yaamma (hello in Suzy’s Gomeroi language) and Yassou (hello in Greek) is a collaboration between designer Suzy Evans and Adam France.
Parthenons made of eucalyptus trees, echidna climbing out of Greek vases and emu clashing with Spartan armies are hand printed onto textile to create elegant column lampshades.
Adam’s illustrations, and Suzy’s painting and collage work have produced this series of designs inspired by shared interests, motifs and stories related to their individual heritage.
About Suzy and Adam
Suzy Evans is a Gomeroi woman born and raised in Sydney. She spent the best part of her childhood around the harbour foreshore. From a young age Suzy’s mother and father instilled in her a love of Country. Her father would take her to see carvings and middens. This experience, as well as her ancestral connections to Moree, has informed her art practice.
Suzy has been a constant in the Aboriginal design community for over 20 years. Her brand modernmurri (@modernmurri) has been stocked across Australia in design stores and galleries (MCA, QAGOMA, ADC) with a range of silk screened work and textile products.
Adam France is a Sydney born multi-disciplinary artist, designer and craftsperson. Adam has degrees in fine arts (Sydney College of the Arts) and Visual Communications (University of Technology, Sydney) which inform his work in public art. He is a lead designer at Urban Art Projects and has his own arts practice. This work has taken Adam around the world, working in New York and Amsterdam.
Adam’s Greek heritage is celebrated in the motifs and themes that connect to familiar attitudes and values and find form in paper patterns, illustration and textile works.
