Influenced by the language of architectural form, and interested in the tension and ambiguity between what is man made and what is organic, Richard Whiteley creates large cast glass sculptures that explore notions of space and light.

With works held in major museums worldwide, most notably the Australian National Gallery and the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, Whiteley is a highly regarded glass artist who has been commissioned to create sizeable work for several public institutions. A board member for the Visual Art Board of the Australia Council from 2009-2011, Whiteley is currently Associate Professor and Head of the Glass Workshop and Convenor of Craft & Design Workshops at the Australian National University School of Art.
