Born in Wudinna, South Australia, Yvonne Koolmatrie is an Ngarrindjeri weaver who has been at the forefront of re-imagining south eastern weaving practices for the past three decades.

Koolmatrie was a pivotal figure in the emergence of South Australian contemporary Aboriginal art in the 1980s. She represented Australia with Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Judy Watson for the 47th Venice Biennale in 1997. Her weaving is held in prominent collections across Australia.
