Midori Goto is a Sydney-based ceramicist, whose artistic journey followed on from a successful childcare career. The daughter of Angie Goto, a renowned deaf artist and arts educator, Midori has been intimately connected to the world of art since her early years.

Her creative path led her to the medium of clay, evolving into works that encapsulate her journey with a deep sense of childhood nostalgia interwoven with current emotions.

The creative process captivates Midori, often immersing her in a state of playful, yet focused, subconscious. Her art serves as an expression of her desire to nurture both the environment and human emotions. Using stoneware, terracotta, resin, and polymer clay, Midori explores texture, shape and colour to connect the viewer with her ideas.

[ceramic story] My playful artworks are a conduit to my childhood nostalgia, inviting me to revisit the realm of childlike curiosity. Through them I explore how we perceive the world around us, and, akin to interest-based learning, my inspiration undergoes transformation on a daily basis.

[digital connection] The activation element of this work has been developed by Jess Montecinos. The interactive effect is reminiscent of waves and the aura of our inner child. Fleeting shadows and a sweet child's laughter add another dimension to Midori's playful sculptures.
