GOOD NATURED: design art architecture celebrates creative projects by designers, artists and architects working to design a better future. These practitioners are focussed on creating outcomes that are both beautiful and good for the planet.

About BREATHE

Breathe, an architectural collective based in Melbourne/Naarm, design healthy sustainable projects that are adapted to the environment and built to last. Their timeless work creates harmonious places to live for the residents and a place of beauty for the community.

Breathe are committed to sustainability not just in their role as architects but as educators too. That’s why they created a range of guides that offer accessible introductions to sustainable building design.

The Business:
We're Carbon Neutral
We are B Corp
We have a reconciliation action plan

Projects are:
Carbon neutral
Responsibly sourced
Life cycle assessed
Designed for people and the planet

Breathe undertakes meaningful projects they can be proud of — those that align with their purpose and values. Since they focus on maximising positive impact, many of their projects don’t fit the common definition of ‘architecture’. They work to understand who they’re designing for. They strive to inspire, engage and support their clients and the broader communities they serve. They prioritise social, environmental and economic sustainability in every project. They question the status quo to pursue outcomes that are informed by, and seek to better, those that came before. Above all, they prioritise ethics along with aesthetics, and design without ego, to create the best outcomes for clients and their communities.

Breathe's Project

The Commons is an example of sustainable urbanisation — a replicable triple bottom line development with apartments that are spacious, generous, simple, affordable, sustainable and that value add to the community. At its core, The Commons is about people, not architectural form, and what is most impressive is the way in which people use the building, the way they interact. It’s how they smile and talk to each other in the lift. It’s their generosity toward one another.

The design strategy for The Commons was to build more with less. To give space and height, light and air. To give people what they needed not what the marketing agents thought would sell. The whole, together, is so much more than the sum of its parts.
