Mio Kuhnen

"I have memories of walls covered with Moths flittering around attracted by the artificial night lights. The forms of the brooches relate to moth egg shapes, which provides a play on scale. When the series of brooches are seen together the triangular geometric forms of the wings and moth shapes create an uncanny sense of movement, chaos and flittering against the darkness of the night."

Mio Kuhnen explores the intersection between art and science. She completed a degree in Environmental Science and Geology at the Australian National University, in marine and sedimentary geology and continues to work professionally in her scientific specialty alongside her jewellery practice.
