Sairi Yoshizawa
Timeless Motion
Timeless Motion, is an abstracted landscape juxtaposing ideas of fragility and potency through the use of delicate materials, that produce enduring impressions.
Created using a process of kasuri/ikat resist technique, the yarn is bound randomly to build the repetitive texture, and colour is explored by over dying several times with different matter.
Throughout her practice Sairi has worked with natural dyes, reflecting upon the abundance of nature and the eternal discovery of colour found in local landscapes. Natural dye reveals endless seasonal variations and uncovers a record of nuanced colour and pattern in the land.
Sairi Yoshizwa was born in Japan and migrated to Australia at a young age. Currently base in Sydney, Sairi’s practice is centred on creating naturally dyed textiles with woven thread. She studied textiles design arts with honours at Australian National University and completed further studies at UNSW, Sydney.
Sairi has exhibited in a number of group and solo shows and has been the recipient of several awards. In 2014, she was selected artist in resident at Sturt Australian Design and Craft Centre, Mittagong. She recently had solo exhibitions “Amidst” at Chalk Horse Gallery and “Lithe” at Delmar Gallery in 2020.
