Nightly Ritual documents a signature of time, place, state, feeling and evidence.
Traces of where, what, how, when and who – a signature exists not as an afterthought but as significant. Bodily fluids mark and leave a trace tracking internal or external, deliberate or unintentional of action or decision or condition. Encasing and encased where innocence is no protection.
Nightly Ritual documents a signature of time, place, state, feeling and evidence.
About Desdemona
Experience, family history and personal imagery litter Desdemona’s works. ‘Traces’ selected and examined result in works aiming to engage a community narrative of memory, allowing reflection and an intimate personal response to expose and reveal the unexpected. Desdemona desires to make visible the overlooked, pointing to what is hidden in plain sight. Constructed to question, the works also seek beauty, poetics and seduction. The histories of surrealism and minimalism are also references for her.
Selected media and techniques within a restricted palette allow her to simplify a subject, to strip it back then ‘attack’ with compulsive repetition. Desdemona’s use of the discipline of repetition is meditative and as a communication technique aims to provoke response in the viewer. Her practice is preoccupied with conveying the significant through simplicity.
