A new project from left field is a challenge that makes me explore new directions. These tiles are a departure from my recent ceramic work based on fabric, although consistent with my current exploration of colour and contrast. The shapes of the pieces draw on fruits and vegetables.

About Jan Downes

Jan, a ceramic artist based in Sydney, has a passion for porcelain. She has been practicing and exhibiting locally and internationally for 30 years.

Most recently she was a finalist in the Clunes and Gosford awards and the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize. Her current work combines fabric with porcelain in Materialised. Last year this series was exhibited at Stella Downer Gallery and she was a part of the Australian Design Centre’s display at the Melbourne Design Fair.
