About the work

Cabbage, corn, cauliflower, 2024
earthenware, glazes, wood, cement
$790

Cabbage, corn, cauliflower is informed by my career as a chef and the tiles mimic the texture of vegetables. The tiles are reminiscent of my grandparent’s bathroom tiles and the novelty, souvenir salt ‘n’ pepper shakers that my Nanna collected. The work also draws on the long history of fruit and vegetables in ceramics from 18th century trompe l'oeil tableware to mid-century Diana ware.

About Scott Duncan

Scott Duncan applies a broad approach to ceramics, making objects that are playful in construction and often ambiguous in function. Handmade tools and selected glazes are used to invoke a sense of nostalgia and the work is an open-ended invitation to enjoy aesthetics high and low. Following a career as a chef, he recommenced his art practice with a residency at kil.n.it Experimental Ceramics Studios in Glebe, Sydney.
