Lauren Joffe developed her art practice as a contemporary jeweller and object maker, before changing her medium to ceramics. Lauren’s work has been exhibited throughout Australia and internationally. Lauren hand-builds her pieces, which are often large in scale, and is primarily concerned with exploring the aesthetics of the vessel form and in the surfaces of her pieces through mark making and texture.

Equilibrium is an open sculptural form which, although stable on its base, looks precarious. This piece was made in response to the artist’s journey of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Equilibrium is hand-built using stoneware coils. The surface is hand-painted, with fluid marks applied in varying depths of slips and glaze to create quiet shifts in tones.

Lauren Joffe is Prue Venables’ nominee for Treasures.
