High-Rise, 2019

High-Rise was conceived as a reduced appropriation of the functionalist floor lamp – the design, an exercise in restrained form-making and repurposing. The genesis was a large-scale immersive light installation commission for Vivid Sydney, composed of 496 white extruded members with embedded luminaires, suspended eight metres above viewers.

The interwoven grid orders, strict geometrics and simplicity of the original piece served as inspiration for a collection of interior fixtures and furnishings, the first one being High-Rise.

The current fixture is a fragment of a whole with its balance inverted, the linear geometries of the original piece are reimagined as a solid white base. The luminaire stems from the base vertically and illuminates directionally, filling environments with a white glow. The lamp that can also be dimmed to suit a range of settings and moods.
