Prue Venables (VIC) is a leading ceramic artist. She has been practising since 1977, developing a mastery of porcelain. Her work has evolved from traditional and functional objects to sculptural entities that mimic the useful and every day.

“I am fascinated with functional objects, the wonder of simple things that lie at the core of our lives. There is something so energising and wonderful about a beautiful pot. The holding, turning, using and celebration of such objects brings such joy and warmth of human connection. I play with form, space and concept, absorbing qualities associated with risk and technique to develop objects imbued with a sense of quietness and a deceptive simplicity. Objects are placed together to reflect musical rhythms and even a quiet pause for breath.”

Australian Design Centre’s exhibition Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft – Prue Venables toured nationally from 2019 to 2023.
