Australian Design Centre film accepted into London’s Craft Film Festival

A short film about Sydney weaver Liz Williamson made by filmmaker Angus Lee Forbes for the Australian Design Centre (ADC) exhibition Obsessed: Compelled to make has been accepted into Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival.

The film is one of 14 films that Forbes made for the Australian Design Centre (ADC) exhibition Obsessed: Compelled to make, which presents the work of 14 artists from across Australia, delving beyond the finished object, beyond the personality of the maker, into the fundamental conceptual framework of their creations. This exhibition was several years in the making, and is currently travelling to 12 locations across Australia in a tour that ends in 2021.

Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival will show two screenings at the Picturehouse Central in London on 8 and 9 May during London Craft Week. Produced by the Crafts Council and Crafts magazine, this third edition of the festival presents an eclectic programme of shorts exploring our relationship with materials and making, including documentaries, maker profiles, music videos and hand-crafted animations from around the globe that celebrate craft in all its facets.

“The UK Craft Council and Craft magazine’s Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival is an exceptional platform for documentary film about craft and design. We are delighted to have Angus Lee Forbes’ film for Obsessed: Compelled to Make about weaver Liz Williamson’s story accepted into the festival. Liz is a master of Australian craft, an exceptional weaver, teacher and mentor and her story stands out as a testament to the strong traditions of contemporary craft in this country,” said Lisa Cahill, CEO and Artistic Director of ADC.
