Object Therapy is the ADC’s newest major exhibition to embark on a two year, eight-venue national tour.  Since de-install in June, we have been busily preparing wrapping, packing, foaming and crating the exhibition before it hits the road. The ADC have also been developing the installation manual, education kit and public program resources to support the venues taking up this exhibition.

Object Therapy is a project that explores creative transformation and notions of value and repair. Much loved but broken items were submitted to repair researchers and designers to undergo ‘therapy’. Object Therapy showcases innovative design solutions while exploring the attachments we form with objects, encouraging us to rethink our habits of material consumption while exploring and celebrating the role and creative possibilities of repair in society.

The exhibition travel across Australia, first stopping at the Noosa Regional Gallery in November. Then in 2018, it will be moving on to the South Australian School of Art gallery, Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery, Design Tasmania, Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery, Lismore Regional Gallery and finally Tamworth Regional Gallery.

The exhibition was originally conceived by Hotel Hotel in 2016 as part of their Fix and Make program. The 29 object owners have mixed feelings about letting their repaired objects go on an "extended holiday" but have graciously allowed us to hold on to their transformed treasures for a little longer, with several owners even promising to visit the exhibition whilst on tour across Australia.
