As part of the Australian Design Centre’s exhibition, Shapeshifters: 3D Printing the Future, Modfab will be running a series of 3D Printing and CAD Workshops for anyone keen to discover and explore the relatively new technology of 3D design.
Modfab is the first 3D Printing Technology business in Australia to create customised learning experiences for school students, teachers and the general public. They are passionate about spreading the innovative technology of 3D printing and are leading the way in making this relatively new technology accessible to all.
Join us at the Australian Design Centre for the following workshops:
Immersion Day
Saturday 25 June (general public)
Tuesday 5 and Friday 8 July (school holiday program – suitable for primary & high school children)
A fun and engaging day exploring the 3D printing design cycle. Participants will come up with original product ideas and see them brought to life. You will learn how to model your designs in 3D CAD software and print them out.
- A qualified teacher will lead the immersion day
- Introduction to CAD and the 3D Print Cycle using Project Based Learning
- 3D’ER Student Handbook provided for each participant
- Participants will present their project using PowerPoint, Vimeo or Prezi if time allows
- Up to four 3D printers available for use
- Participants will receive a 3D Printing Certificate after completing their student handbook, and successful creation of their design.
- Participants will have one of their projects printed to take home or pick up after the workshop (time permitting).
Requirements: Participants need to bring a laptop with google chrome installed, an ethernet port/adaptor and a mouse. Please contact ADC if you do not have a laptop available. WIFI is available, however can be slower when processing large files so we encourage you to bring an adaptor.

Introductory Course on 3D printing
Saturday 11 June (general public)
During this 3-hour workshop, participants will experience a short presentation showing the evolution of 3D printing in business and industry. You’ll learn to use basic CAD software, create your own name tag, and learn how to export and prepare a 3D model for printing. Four 3D printers will be available for use. Sessions are limited to small numbers to ensure a quality experience and useful levels of hands-on learning.
Requirements: Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop with google chrome installed and a mouse. Please contact ADC if you do not have a laptop available.

Introduction to TinkerCad
Saturday 2 July (general public)
TinkerCAD is one of the easiest CAD softwares to learn. During this 3-hour workshop, Modfab will take you through two projects, starting off with basic skills, and then delving into the full range of tools available in this program. As part of this program you will also design a project.
Modfab will supply notebook computers and 4 x 3D printers will be available for use. Sessions are limited to 10 candidates to ensure a quality experience and useful levels of hands-on learning.
Requirements:Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop with google chrome installed and a mouse. Please contact ADC if you do not have a laptop available.
