25 March to 13 May 2021

Signatures: the mark as the embodiment of identity and intent presents new works from Untethered Fibre Artists Inc. Eighteen New South Wales artists interrogate, interpret and respond to the theme ‘signatures’ in this interrelated exhibition.

Signatures investigates the making of a mark – the distinctive pattern, notion or characteristic by which someone or something may be identified. Each artwork rephrases assumptions and reflects the diversity in approach to art-making in fibre.

The theme, 'signatures', has potential to delve into rich resources - from the tangible to the non-tangible, the personal to the communal. These artworks are under-pinned by the past, present and future experience of the artists and their communities.

The artists include:

Jane Bodnaruk | Carolyn Cabena | Pam de Groot | Jennifer Florey | Desdemona Foster | Cathie Griffith | Fiona Hammond | Margo-Lynne Lee | Catherine Lees | Denise Lithgow | Brenda Livermore | Helen MacRitchie | Mandy McAlister | Robyn McGrath | Samantha Tannous | Kirry Toose | Judith Wilson | Elaine Witton

Founded in 2014 Untethered Fibre Artists Inc. produce and exhibit art using fibre and textile materials and processes. Recognising that creating artworks using fibre is often time consuming and driven by a shared desire to exhibit their works, the group formed with the purpose of making opportunities to exhibit works annually. The group provides a forum for members’ artistic expression and development of fibre art practices within the context of contemporary fibre art and referencing the artist as maker. Their exhibitions explore themes of personal narratives, social and political issues and the perspectives of women in both an intimate and world view.
