Designer, Australian Design Honouree (and ADC Board member), Andrew Simpson has been awarded a 2018 Churchill Fellowship.

This year has been huge for ADC, especially in the lead up to Sydney Craft Week, our city-wide annual festival of craft, and we have been fortunate to have three fantastic university students in the office to help us out during this busy time.

Forty-five years after it opened, Sydney Opera House is still arguably Sydney’s most impressive piece of architecture. This Sydney Architecture Festival program asks, “what makes a building truly great”? 

Materiality, ethics and identity, and their role in making a design culture, were the key themes that emerged from the fourth Women in Design Colloquium, held at Design Tasmania in Launceston from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 September 2018.

ADC has worked with SIGNWAVE Newtown over many years to produce high quality exhibition signage. We talk to Dean Rowland from Signwave about some of his favourite projects, challenges and working with cultural organisations. 

ADC on Tour travels to dozens of exhibition venues across Australia each year. Works being transported can range from delicate ceramics to solid blocks of concrete and large scale exhibition furniture. To look after our precious cargo we love working with the team from IAS Fine Art Logistics, who provide specialised art transport solutions - preparing, packing and transporting our shows. We talked to IAS Business Development Manager, Ian Charman about fine art logistics internationally and advice for those wishing to tour art. 

In the lead up to National Science Week (11 to 19 August) Lisa Cahill caught up with Sangeeta Sandrasegar about her work with the Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW) and the science she references in her practice. Her work Everything has two witnesses, one on earth and one in the sky features in the exhibition Painting with Thread: Samples and Tapestries from the Australian Tapestry Workshop is on display at ADC until 26 September.

ADC’s CEO and Artistic Director Lisa Cahill took time out this week to ask artist Joshua Smith some questions in the lead up to the opening of Urban Decay.

ATW are masters at weaving designs by some of Australia’s most accomplished artists including the magnificent work by Guan Wei.
