Sydney Design Festival has just finished, but at the Australian Design Centre we celebrate and support design year round! We chat to Object Shop designer Adrian Lawson to learn more about his practice and his recycled lighting.

We are pleased to be working with two emerging designers who will take part in Arts NSW 2016 Indigenous Design Mentorship.

Nicole Monks is a trans-disciplinary creative working across furniture design, photo media and light sculpture. In 2014, Monks won the UNSW Art & Design Professional Development Award and was also winner of a Sydney Design Award for her showcase at Australian Indigenous Fashion Week.

Founded in 2013, the Indigenous Jewellery Project (IJP) is the first nation-wide Indigenous Australian contemporary jewellery project. ADC CEO and Artistic Director Lisa Cahill spoke to IJP founding curator Emily McCulloch Childs about the project in preparation for the opening of Bulay(i):Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Artists with Indigenous Jewellery Project.

Biomedical engineer Professor Melissa Knothe Tate is turning art and science on their heads in her transdisciplinary, interactive exhibition, Biotextilogy: The Cellular Catwalk opening 6 October. We recently asked her about about the topic - “Handmade in a digital age” - and the questions "Why is craft important in a digital age? How does craft do good in the world? Why is it needed now more than ever?"

The exhibition Future Artefacts brings together three very distinct creative voices, each well known in their respective fields for their unique and particular vision: that of fashion designer Alexi Freeman, contemporary jeweller Tessa Blazey, and photographic artist Jane Burton.   

Sydney Contemporary, Australasia's largest art fair, returns from 7 - 10 September with 90+ galleries from around the globe at the Carriageworks. We spoke to Anna Grigson from Sabbia Gallery who will be exhibiting for the first time to find out what she is showing and what she is looking forward to seeing.

DESIGN-MADE. is a new contemporary design event showcasing furniture, lighting and objects for home and living. Australian Design Centre’s Creative Program for 2018 is an ambitious and exciting program that includes projects with a diverse mix of Australian and international artists and partners. 
The program includes 19 exhibitions in Sydney, over 100 events and public programs, outdoor markets, 15 exhibition openings across Australia in our national exhibition program ADC on Tour and Sydney Craft Week – a 10 day program of over 100 different events taking place across Greater Sydney.
